Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently arrested two abortion providers in the state, a new stage in his crackdown against reproductive rights. Maria Margarita Rojas, who runs a small chain of abortion clinics called Clínicas Latinoamericanas, and Jose Ley were arrested at a clinic near Houston and face second-degree felony charges that could carry 20-year prison sentences.
Meanwhile, an investigation by ProPublica found that sepsis rates among pregnant people in Texas have shot up since the state first banned abortions in 2021. At least two women have died from sepsis after doctors feared carrying out procedures that could have been construed as abortions.
