Former Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently made headlines for dismissing pro-Palestinian student protesters as being ignorant of the history of the Middle East. Liberal feminists like Clinton face accusations of equating freedom for women with war-making.
At a recent Feminist Peace Summit held in Denver, Colorado, progressive women leaders pushed back against this notion and reaffirmed the consistency of feminism with peace and justice. Among them were Christine Ahn, founder and executive director of Women Cross DMZ, international coordinator of the Korea Peace Now! campaign, and co-founder of the Feminist Peace Initiative; as well as Marie Berry, director of the Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy and associate professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver.
